I needed to bring a dessert to a dinner party, and I didn’t have a lot of time. At Trader Joe’s I found the Ragged Coast Brownie Mix, (Ragged Coast is a Maine-based company) and I made the most delicious brownies very easily. It is simple, only one saucepan and a whisk are used to make the batter. They bake for 20 – 25 minutes and you have a crowd-pleaser. $12.95.
There are other baking mixes for chocolate chunk scones and chocolate cake that look delicious.
While I was making the brownies I had neglected to put on an apron and had chocolate all over the shirt I was wearing. I had just received a natural clothing stain remover that had been highly recommended to me. I followed the directions, sprayed it on the chocolate, left it for 10 minutes, rinsed it out, and the chocolate stains were gone. Its anti-stain power comes from six plant-based enzymes, and I love the scent. It comes in a travel size and four larger sizes. The 2 oz. travel size is $7.99.
The Oxford English Dictionary publisher chooses a Word of the Year annually and has since 2004. Last year it was “vax”, a slang word for vaccine. 2022’s word is “Goblin mode”, a term unfamiliar to me until it was announced. It is defined as a slang term meaning “a type of behavior which is unapologetically self-indulgent, lazy, slovenly, or greedy, typically in a way that rejects social norms or expectations.” It’s most often used in a sentence as “in goblin mode” or “to go goblin mode.”
It won out over ‘metaverse’ and ‘#IStandWith’ in the publisher’s first public vote, winning 93% of over 300,000 votes. In previous years the OED team created a list of words with statistical relevancy was put together and the lexicographers chose one.
